Pitcairn – traveling in the country
Ship: 13-meter-long, open aluminum boats connect Bounty Bay with the ships anchored at sea. All deliveries for the islands are transported on them.
Cars and Motorcycles: Motorcycles and quads (ATV) are the main modes of transport on the islands. When it rains, the mostly unpaved roads give way and turn into sticky mud.
Pitcairn Islands Sightseeing
The Pitcairn Islands have rather few attractions to offer. A museum has recently been opened here. Not only the remains of the famous ship Bounty are exhibited there. Tools found on the island can also be viewed there. These tools confirm that the archipelago must have been temporarily inhabited before the mutineers of the Bounty. One of the highlights of the museum is Christian’s preserved Bible.
The British government paid for the colonial-style building of the museum. Their purpose was to revive the economic and cultural life on the islands.
Individual parts were ordered from all over the world for the construction of the museum.
Nature lovers shouldn’t miss out on the nearby Adamstown Christian Cave. It really is a fantastic place. From here you have a wonderful view over the island and the deep blue sea.
According to tradition, the leader of the bounty mutiners, Fletcher Christian, was said to have been here often to keep an eye out for English warships that were looking for them.
You should also have seen the small, almost overgrown cemetery. This is the final resting place of the last surviving mutineer of the Bounty on the island. For more information about the continent of Oceania, please check zipcodesexplorer.com.
